Nike releases statement after Tiger Woods wears FootJoy shoes

Tiger Woods made his return to Augusta National Golf Club this weekend to continue preparing for a possible return to this week’s Masters.

Woods hasn’t played in over a year following a horrific car accident that required major surgery to treat injuries to both legs.

Given the nature of his recovery, comfort with the golf shoes he wears is of the utmost importance when moving around the golf course. On Sunday, as Woods practiced at the driving range, reporters noticed he was wearing FootJoy golf shoes instead of shoes from his longtime sponsor, Nike.

After photos of Tiger’s shoes went viral, Nike released a statement to ESPN’s Michael Collins support the golfer’s early return to competition.

“Like golf fans around the world, we are thrilled to see Tiger back on the course. He is an incredible athlete, and it is phenomenal to see him return to the game at this level. His story continues to transcend the sport. and to inspire us all. As he continues his comeback, we will work with him to meet his new needs.

Woods announced it was a ‘time of play’ decision for the Masters, but his continued preparation with the tournament starting later this week indicates he could go for it barring a setback from last minute.
