Vivienne Westwood was largely responsible for dressing up the modern punk and new wave scenes of the 70s and 80s, but that doesn’t mean the legendary British designer didn’t dabble in a few other trends here and there. Now, for Spring/Summer 2022, Westwood is introducing the Romper Sandal and Romper Runner in white or black colourways.
As seen in the brand’s Juergen Teller-shot SS22 campaign, the Romper Sandal and Runner projects an aesthetic similar to gladiator sandals – which became famous in the 1960s and again in the early 2000s – while bringing a daddy shoe energy. It does this through a high-end design detailed with cut-out panels on the sandal, and as with the runner, these come with a cotton inner layer that creates a tall, chunky sneaker.
In line with Westwood’s ethos, these shoes are also sustainable and feature vegan leather panels made from apple fiber or natural bamboo fiber depending on the style and colorway. Likewise, a contrasting recycled patch is embroidered on the back of each model, while other Westwood Orb branding appears on the insole.
Rounding out the sandal is its lace-up closure system paired with Velcro straps, while runners stick with straps. Take a look at Vivienne Westwood’s new shoes above and shop all three iterations online now. Prices range from US$450 to US$525.
